Green Actions
Documentation and sustainable action plans: community service, seedling planting, and plastic-free campaigns.
Gotong Royong: Collective Strength
Gotong royong is the tradition of working together that is the backbone of Jatiluwih community life. In the context of environmental preservation, gotong royong is realized through various concrete actions involving all levels of villagers.
Monthly Village Cleanup
Every full moon, all village residents work together to clean village roads, temple areas, and DTW public facilities. An average of 200+ residents participate.
Dike Repairs
Periodically, subak members cooperate to repair rice field dikes and irrigation channels damaged by weather or natural erosion.
Trekking Trail Renovation
Village youth together with DTW management maintain and update trekking trails using natural materials such as river stones and local bamboo.
Seedling Planting Program
Jatiluwih is committed to maintaining ecosystem balance through a structured and sustainable seedling planting program. Every year, thousands of seedlings are planted in village conservation areas.
- Endemic Tree Seedlings: Planting of typical Balinese trees such as majegau, cempaka, and intaran to maintain local biodiversity.
- Green Corridors: Planting bamboo and climbing plants along village road edges to create cool and aesthetic green corridors.
- Village Nursery: Independent nursery on village land managed by the PKK women's group, producing 5,000+ seedlings per year.
- Tree Adoption: Program for tourists to plant and adopt a tree with a digital certificate, becoming a meaningful memory and real contribution.
Plastic-Free Campaign
Since 2023, Desa Adat Jatiluwih has launched a single-use plastic-free movement across all DTW areas. This campaign involves traders, managers, and visitors.
Plastic-Free Shops
All shops and stalls in the DTW area have switched to using banana leaf packaging, bamboo, and biodegradable containers. Subsidies are given for the initial transition.
Water Refill Stations
Three free drinking water stations are spread along the main trekking routes, reducing plastic bottle consumption by 70% since installation.
Tourist Education
Every visitor receives a brief briefing on the plastic-free policy and is provided with a reusable cloth bag at the DTW entrance.
Water Channel Cleaning
Subak irrigation channels are the lifeline of Jatiluwih agriculture. Regular cleaning is carried out to maintain water flow and aquatic ecosystem cleanliness.
- Weekly Schedule: Every Sunday morning, the subak team cleans primary and secondary channels from waste and sediment.
- Monthly Inspection: Pekaseh conducts a thorough inspection of the entire irrigation network to detect early damage.
- Intensive Rainy Season: During the rainy season (October-March), cleaning frequency is increased to twice a week.
- Inter-Subak Collaboration: Routine coordination with neighboring subaks to ensure water quality from upstream to downstream.
